Faithfulness 忠誠

It is always both consoling and painful the memories of our old
friends. When reviewing in my imagination all the pleasant moments
that we have spend together I can not believe that he is already gone and
yet I feel him to be more close to me that ever.
What are the characteristics that could resume the main note of his
personality? I chose one that perhaps in some way contains many others:
his faithfulness. And I understand this as directed to all the acquaintances
and relations that he shared in his life.
Starting with his faithfulness to God I always felt that he took
very seriously his relation with the One that without doubt was the
inspirational origin of every motivation in his life and conduct. That
attitude was leading him from the early age when he wanted to join the
Society of Jesus and went to the seminary of Javier. The same fidelity
I remember to have pushed him to ask to come in China to share with
many his faith and hope.
With his own family he always kept in contact especially with
his other brother, Ram車n, who was also a Jesuit, and lived in USA. I
remember that, after all her four children enter the S.J., his mother also
joined a contemplative order and died as a holy person.
He was the type of character that easily makes friends and one of
the reasons could be that everybody felt that he was a person you can
rely on. He was a real gentleman that will not break his word and will
keep his promises.
Another aspect of this faithfulness could be his positive attitude
towards the others. His opinions on persons will always bring an
emphasis on the bright aspect of the subject rather than on the dark one.
I was very impressed by one of his disciples that confessed to me
that the group of students that were under his direction years ago really
※Loved him§. The cause might be found in the sincere dedication to them
in spite of all the obstacles that a professor could find in his endeavor of
caring for the young students. They really loved him. That will resume
many of his qualities as a friend and educator.

忠誠 Faithfulness

回憶起我們的老朋友總覺得既安慰又傷感。當我運用想像力回 顧我們相處的美好時光，我無法相信他已遠離人世，然而卻有從未 感覺過的親近。
他的個性有什麼特性呢？或許就某些意義而言，一言以蔽之： 那就是忠誠。而我也了解在他一生中，對所有的親朋好友以及相識 之人均報之以忠誠。
他首要對上主忠誠，我覺得他非常嚴肅地視他和上主的關係， 毫無疑問地是在生活及行為上，做為啟示每一次行動上的源頭。從 早年他想加入耶穌會及進入西班牙Javier修道院唸書時，這種態度就 引領著他。這種忠誠也促使他請求到中國來，以分享他的信念和希 望。
他一直和他自己的家人保持聯絡，特別是他的哥哥Ramon，他 也是一位耶穌會神父，住在美國。我也記得在他家四個兄弟加入耶 穌會後，他的母親也加入隱修院，後來如同聖人般的過世。
他的品德讓人覺得容易親近，因此讓每一個人覺得他值得信賴 而想和他交往。他是一位典型的君子，謹守信諾，絕不食言。
他的忠誠也表現在待人的積極態度上。向人建言時，必強調事 情的光明面，而非黑暗面。
他的學生中有一位向我坦誠，多年前在他指導下的這群學生真 的很「愛他」，讓我深受感動。儘管教師可能發現努力地照顧年輕 的學生們，往往障礙重重，但他真誠的奉獻，便是受學生愛戴的原 因。總而言之，他擁有亦師亦友的特質，他們真的愛他。
